FOLGER ESTATE PRESERVATION GROUP FORMED
The Friends of Folger Estate Stable, in partnership with the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Division, have embarked upon an effort to preserve this stable which represents a fascinating glimpse into the Great Estates period in the early 1900s. During this time, horses were essential for transportation, labor, and recreation and were an integral part of everyday life. This legacy continues today as the stable still provides an active boarding facility for horses in Woodside.
The Friends have received approval from the Parks and Recreation Division and the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors to begin preliminary work on the stable. This will include conceptual architectural drawings, geotechnical work, lead and lumber inspections, and other initial assessments. The work will be coordinated by W.L. Butler Construction, owned by Woodside resident Bill Butler.
The restoration effort will be coordinated by the Folger Estate Stable Committee and is a project of the 'Friends of Huddart & Wunderlich Parks'. The Committee is seeking input and/or memorabilia from people who have boarded horses at the stable in the past and/or have photographs from “the good old days". The Committee has also begun an oral history project that will document various aspects of the rich history and tradition associated with the stable. For information about the Folger Estate Stable Project and to learn how you can help in this effort, please call the Friends at (650) 851-2660.
Checks for donations to the project may be made out to the Folger Stable Project and sent to the Friends of Huddart & Wunderlich Parks, P.O. Box 884, San Carlos, CA 94070-0884.

MCINTYRE RANCH HAS POTENTIALTO PROVIDE EQUESTRIAN ACTIVITIES
The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is looking for ways to make the historic McIntyre Ranch self-sustaining. 'LandPeople' has been hired to gather information from equestrians to determine if the property could be leased as an equestrian facility. The property could provide public trail access to Blue Rock Springs Park, Hiddenbrooke and the regional Bay Area Ridge Trail. A range of activities are being considered including an outdoor education site, an interpretive learning center, a campground for youth and adult organizations, including hiking, biking and equestrian groups. There is also a possibility that horse boarding, lessons and a therapeutic riding program would be appropriate to the site.
